Intranet Server
Our rock-steady dual-processor Xeon server has been running on SuSE Linux since 1998, and all daily tasks are automated with failsafe mechanisms right in place. We do not witness blue screens of death or loss of data from viruses .

Software
The applications and software we use are open source , like Apache for serving our intranet, Squid proxy for internet access, Samba for Windows client networking, Postfix for mail relaying, Webmin for server administration, OpenLDAP for directory access, etc.

Firefox and Thunderbird
All nodes use the award winning open source Firefox web browser enhanced with nifty extensions and live bookmarks and the Thunderbird email client with advanced mail filtering. We don't have to waste time going through spam to get down to business .

Zope
The Zope application server which we give a thumbs up is used for automating tasks on our intranet. The Plone content management framework which sits above it, is used for all internal documentation and revision control.

Plone
The cool modules from the plone collective CVS are used to extend its functionality. We use a modified versions of the Plone Collector for technical issue tracking and sales enquiries, Simple Blog for logging of all discussions and thoughts, archetypes for generating custom content types and forms, etc.

GNU C
Our reed switch sorting and grading machines are completely PC controlled with EISA based cards developed in house. All software is written using the open source GNU C compiler, which is portable to any architecture and is a killer !
