Usage Notes on Cylindrical and Flat pack Proximity Sensors

Reed Switches, Reed Sensors, Magnet Sensors and other Reed-based products are extremely delicate in nature and care needs to be taken so as to not inadvertently damage the product. Some tips are listed below. Click to view or download this page as a PDF.

Product usage should be within electrical and other specification limits.

Dropping or subjecting devices to shock will permanently damage the contact or alter the AT band.

Using Ferro-magnetic mounting parts, screws, or other Ferro-magnetic devices nearby will alter actuation distance.

When manual soldering, do not subject devices to more than 2 seconds of solder tip dwell.

Use a heat sink when welding.

Switching voltage, switching current, and contact rating should not exceed maximum limits stated in specification sheets.

The product of voltage and current being switched should not exceed the maximum contact rating.

When switching inductive or capacitive loads, use contact protection circuits.

 Bending cables too close to the housing will damage the sensors.

Magnet storage and usage temperature must be within 70°C.

Magnets should not be stored near other stronger magnets or equipments generating magnetic fields.

Magnets supplied with magnet sensors should only be paired and used from same shipment batch.
