Blowers Use Reed Switches to detect drop in Flow-rate
Blowers, also known as centrifugal fans, find extensive application across various fields for air or gas movement, serving purposes ranging from creating vacuum or exhaust in a space to generating positive pressure in clean rooms and similar environments. In such critical applications where maintaining specific pressures or ensuring the removal of harmful gases is imperative, monitoring the gas flow rate becomes crucial.
In these systems, Reed Switches are commonly employed within blowers and vacuum ducts. These switches consist of a vane housing a small magnetic element placed within the airflow inside the duct, while the sensor is positioned externally. Under normal conditions, the flow of air in the blower sustains the vane in close proximity to the reed sensor. However, if there’s a decline in the airflow due to factors like filter clogging or saturation of exhaust water jackets, the vane fails to trigger the reed switch.
This failure to actuate the reed switch serves as a signal, indicating a decrease in airflow rate. This signal can then be utilized to activate indicators such as a “filter change” LED, prompting maintenance actions, or in critical scenarios, it can trigger alarms to draw immediate attention to the issue.
By employing Reed Switches in blowers in this manner, systems can proactively monitor their operational efficiency and promptly address any deviations from optimal performance, ensuring the continued effectiveness and safety of the environment they operate within.
