Reed switches for Door sensing on Copiers and Scanners
A Paper Scanner or just scanner for short, is a device that uses an optical head to scan images or printed documents. The most commonly used model is a flatbed scanner which is very similar to a paper copying machine.
The device consists of a glass area where the image or paper to be scanned is placed face down, under which the motor controlled scanning head sits. Once the paper is placed there, the door needs to be closed to stop any unwanted light from interfering with the scanning process. Once this is done, the scan button starts the process.
This process is made easier for the user by using Reed Sensors that sense when the door is closed so that the scanning process is started without having to press the scan button, which is especially useful when scanning large amounts of documents. This system also protects the optical head fro misuse by not allowing scanning is the door is not closed.
Applications are classified as Position Sensing, Pulse Counting, Electromagnetic or Relay, Temperature Sensing or Magnet Biasing types. This application is classified as follows and the link gives more information on best practices to help select the most suitable AT band and matching magnet.
The Reed Switches and Sensors used in such applications need to be robust, durable and efficient in meeting a high life expectancy. Our engineers work hard in life testing our products under various conditions, and our intention is to ensure end product durability and life. Although we wouldn’t want to restrict any of our products for use in only certain applications, the recommended products for use in this application are listed below.
