Reed sensors in weather proof electronics
The IP67 Code or the International Protection Marking states standards for weather proof electrical and electronic enclosures to ensure that they withstand sweat, fingerprints, dust and water. This is also a certification standard that helps users be very sure about the extent their mobile devices can be used in moisture or water. Such enclosures are IP67 rated, and devices such as smart phones, music players, and others need to use special buttons which work reliably even under water.
Since IP67 rated housings are sealed off from the atmosphere, Reed Switches and Reed Sensors, which are hermetically sealed, are the ideal solution as they can be mounted inside the enclosure, free from the external water and dirt. A tiny sliding or push mounted magnet on the outside of the housing can be fitted to trigger them. These kinds of reed switches are also used in underwater cameras and flashes
