Reed switches in Reed Relays for Fax Machines
A Facsimile Machine or Fax Machines enable the transmission of documents over telephone lines. Although these machines gained maximum usage in the 1980s, businesses in the new millennium still continue to maintain a fax machine, for sending signed copies of documents etc.
Today, the technology of fax machines have improved a lot and data is sent using the Internet instead directly over phone lines. All paper copiers in offices come with in built fax machines’ capabilities. Even still, Reed Switch based Reed Relays continue to be used on such devices for switching larger loads such as for heating up the toners or for driving the motors that feed paper etc.
Ultra miniature Reed Switches are used in such Reed Relays and are manufactured by winding a coil around the reed switches. Special reed relays which have low inductance can be used in radio frequency (RF) switching applications to ensure that there is no power loss. The Reed Relay makes it simple to switch higher loads with a signal load on multiple circuits in Fax Machines, in addition to warming up the toner.
