Reed Sensors in the Internet of Things

Smart cities use technologies to integrate hardware and software that enhance the quality of living, the performance of utilities and other hardware, provide interaction between various services, reduce resource usage and costs, and provide vast information to the governing bodies that can be used to improve the system further. Most of the hardware used in smart cities consist of sensors that measure various parameters that pass on the information to a controlling hub which uses an IP network to transmit the data to a Smartphone, Table PC or other mobile device.

The advantages that Reed Sensors offer complement internet connected devices in more ways than one. They do not require power for operation and can switch extremely loads such as a few fempto-amps without the need for any amplification circuits, they are hermetically sealed and are safe to use in humid or even explosive environments ranging from -50C up to 200C, they are immune to electrostatic discharge, and are available for sensing a wide range of distances, levels or pulsing speeds.
