Reed Switches and Reed Sensors in Digital Fishing Reels
Digital Fishing reels are an improvement over the standard, well-proven fishing reel and rod used for winding and stowing a fishing line. Generally, fishing rod and reel assemblies are either held by hand, or mounted on to the rail of boats. In either cases, the line is thrown in, then locked, after which a “bite” makes the reel start unwinding again. With Reed Sensor based digital fishing reels, the advantages are that the user know the length of the line in the water, and can get a audio-visual alarm when a fish “bites”. Such fishing reels equipped with reed sensors to generate pulses on rotation of the handle directly help equate to the length of the fishing line which is also the depth of the water before the “bite”. The same signal is also used to generate a signal which turns a buzzer on. Reed Sensors also do not require power for operation and are very suitable for battery operated applications such as this.
