Cable Handling

When using Reed Switches soldered to cables, or when using off the shelf Magnet Sensors with cables, some precautions need to be followed to protect the sensors from early failure.
Firstly, when ordering reed switch assemblies or Magnet Sensors, they are supplied with single cables of same color. These cables are not to be twisted and used, as this could dislodge the soldering or welding inside, thereby damaging the contact. Cables should also not be bent too close to the plastic housing for the same reasons.
When using Magnet Sensors on moving parts, it is recommended to select two core cables with a higher number of strands to reduce work hardening of the cable. Cylindrical Sensors in plastic housings should not be clamped too tight on the fixture as this could damage the contact inside.
