Precision Testing: How We Test Every Sensor Before Shipment

Precision testing of reed switches

At Reed Relays and Electronics India Limited, we understand that quality and reliability are paramount. That’s why every reed switch and sensor we manufacture undergo comprehensive precision testing to ensure flawless performance before leaving our facility. From electromechanical measurements to magnet distance trials, our sensors are meticulously checked to meet the highest industry standards.

Our precision testing begins with electromechanical measurements, where we assess critical parameters to confirm consistent performance. These include:

  • Operate AT (OAT): This measures the precise point at which the sensor actuates under an applied magnetic field.
  • Variation in OAT: We check for slight fluctuations in this parameter to ensure uniformity in performance.
  • Release AT (RAT): We determine when the sensor deactivates after the magnetic field is removed.
  • Variation in RAT: Ensuring minimal variation in release time is vital for predictable performance.
  • Static Contact Resistance (CR): The resistance across closed contacts of the sensor at 25% more magnetic overdrive beyond closure.
  • Dynamic Contact Resistance (DCR): We measure the resistance during sensor switching to verify that the electrical flow remains consistent.
  • Operate Time, Release Time, and Bounce Time: These timings are measured to ensure that the sensor switches cleanly and without delay or excessive bounce, which could impact functionality.

We also assess additional factors like the Differential, which examines the difference between the Operate and Release AT, and the Delta CR and Delta DCR, which check for variations in contact resistance during operation. For some sensor types, we measure Dwell, which helps to ensure the sensor does not remain in neither open nor closed state for as less time.

In addition to electromechanical testing, we conduct 100% magnet distance trials to assess the sensor’s range for “on” and “off” switching if a customer provides the magnets. This ensures the sensor operates precisely within the specified distance. To accommodate these specific needs, we offer custom test jigs to our clients, allowing them to replicate these tests on their end.

With our rigorous testing protocols, we ensure that every sensor performs reliably in its application environment, giving our clients the confidence they need in mission-critical tasks.
