Side Stand Sensing on Motorcycles and Two Wheelers
Motorcycles, Scooters and other motorized E-bikes have a side stand and a main stand under the chassis. A quick and easy motion of the riders foot gets the side stand out and helps park the vehicle. The problem arises when these motorized two wheelers are started up and driven away without raising the side stand as this could cause a serious accident during turns.
This is where Magnet Sensors help by sensing if the side stand has been raised and if not, give an indication on the instrument panel, or even not allow the engine to be started.
Magnet Sensors have high repeatability when working in dirty applications and in dirty environments such as the under carriage without any change in the actuating distance. The basic principles of position sensing remain the same. The Magnet Sensor can be fitted on the chassis near the side stand, with a magnet fixed on the moving stand. When the stand is raised, it activates the sensor which sends a signal to the motor cycles controller that the engine can be started.
Application Classification
Applications are classified as Position Sensing, Pulse Counting, Electromagnetic or Relay, Temperature Sensing or Magnet Biasing types. This application is classified as follows and the link gives more information on best practices to help select the most suitable AT band and matching magnet.
Recommended Products
The Reed Switches and Magnet Sensors used in motorcycle side stand applications need to be robust, durable and efficient in meeting a high life expectancy. Our engineers work hard in life testing our products under various conditions, and our intention is to ensure end product durability and life.
