Flow Meters for checking Lake currents

Underwater currents in lakes and other water bodies are caused by various factors such as pressure gradients due to variation in temperatures, wind, internal circulation and more. To understand these phenomenon and the effects on the environment and its inhabitants, Scientists and Environmentalists require accurate tools to monitor and record currents in the water at various depths of these water bodies.
Lake current meters are usually very expensive equipment but Reed Switch based lake current meters are more cost effective. The probe consists of a solid spindle and a fan which can be dropped to any depth and also rotated to make the fan point in any direction. At a point where there is some underwater current, the fan start spinning. A Reed switch within the fan assembly counts the number of pulses and this data is transmitted back to the surface. As such current meters maybe be underwater for long periods, a reed switch is always suitable.
