Hydraulic arm position sensing Using Magnet Sensors

Bulldozers, earth movers, tractors, forklifts, and garbage compactor trucks rely heavily on hydraulic arm systems to operate their cylinders and pistons, enabling them to perform a wide range of tasks efficiently. In heavy-duty applications where substantial power is required, hydraulic arms play a crucial role in powering the arms of such equipment, facilitating ease of handling with minimal effort from operators.
To ensure precise control and optimal performance of hydraulic arm systems, industrial-grade magnet sensors are strategically employed on the exterior of hydraulic pistons and cylinders. These sensors accurately detect end positions of the hydraulic arm as well as intermediary positions, providing essential feedback signals utilised by proportional pressure valves to regulate oil pressure to the cylinders and pistons. By dynamically adjusting oil pressure based on sensor feedback, these systems optimize power usage and enhance operational efficiency.
Operating in rugged industrial environments, such as construction sites and waste management facilities, these vehicles are exposed to dirt, debris, and other contaminants that can potentially compromise sensor functionality. To mitigate this risk, reed switches utilized in magnet sensors are hermetically sealed and encapsulated in epoxy, ensuring robust protection against environmental elements. This design feature safeguards sensor integrity and reliability, even in the harshest working conditions of the hydraulic arm.
Furthermore, heavy equipment vehicles operate on similar battery and sensing circuitry levels as automobiles, making them highly compatible with reed-based products. Magnet Sensors, renowned for their durability, versatility, and compatibility with automotive-grade electrical systems, are well-suited to handle a variety of operations in heavy equipment applications. Whether detecting end positions of hydraulic arm components or providing critical feedback for control systems, reed-based solutions offer dependable performance and longevity in demanding industrial settings.
