Reed sensors in weather proof electronics

The IP67 Code, also known as the International Protection Marking establishes a set of pertaining to the weather resistance of electrical and electronic enclosures. These criteria ensure that such enclosures are capable of withstanding exposure to sweat, fingerprints, dust, and water infiltration. The IP67 certification serves to provide users with clear guidelines regarding the level of moisture or water exposure that their electronic devices can safely endure.
Weather proof enclosures affixed with an IP67 rating are designed to protect devices like smartphones and music players from environmental elements. Special buttons are employed to ensure the reliable functionality of these devices, even when submerged in water.
Due to their sealed construction which safeguards against external elements, weather proof enclosures with an IP67 rating benefit from the use of Reed Switches and Reed Sensors that are hermetically sealed. These components are well-suited for installation within the enclosure to shield them from water and debris. External activation of these components is facilitated by the attachment of a small sliding or push-mounted magnet on the enclosure’s exterior. Reed switches of this nature find application in products such as underwater cameras and flashes.
